General Support

How do I get help?

You can reach the CCI HelpDesk in one of three ways:

Tip: The quickest way to get help is to email us. This automatically creates a ticket, allowing our technicians to track the issue and ensure a faster response.

What can the HelpDesk do for me?
The CCI HelpDesk oversees IT support for students, faculty, and staff at the College of Communication & Information. We troubleshoot technical issues, offer advice for technical problems, and provide checkout equipment (laptops, cameras, recorders).

Note: We do not provide support for class assignments. Assignment-related questions should be directed to your teaching assistant.
Can you help with homework assignments?
In keeping with the FSU Academic Honor Policy, the CCI HelpDesk cannot assist with coursework. We recommend checking with your teaching assistant or instructor for help with assignments.
Can I checkout a laptop, camera, or video camera?
Yes. Students, faculty, and staff may check out materials for a one-week period (subject to availability). Please bring your FSUCard for identification.

Software & Labs

If you need additional software, please submit a ticket with a link to the application. We will assess the software for safety and compatibility, then schedule a time to install it.
How do I install IBM SPSS or MATLAB?
These are licensed through FSU ITS with special University pricing for FSU-owned equipment. The cost varies by license and year.

To install, please submit a ticket that includes written approval for the purchase from your departmental director.

Inventory & Security

What data is reported by Lansweeper?
A Lansweeper agent is installed on every FSU-owned computer to manage IT assets. It securely collects:
  • Basic Hardware Inventory (Model, CPU, RAM)
  • List of Installed Applications
It reports this data only when the device is physically plugged into the FSU network in a CCI building.
How does the HelpDesk use Lansweeper data?
This data helps us support our network, assign equipment to individuals, and document adherence to commercial software licensing agreements.
Who can access Lansweeper information?
Data is encrypted and accessible only by CCI IT and HelpDesk staff. Employees may visit the HelpDesk to inspect the data collected from their device. Aggregated, anonymized data is shared with the University for inventory reporting.
Is my computer protected against viruses/malware?
Yes. All FSU-owned Windows / Mac computers run Crowdstrike Falcon Endpoint Protection. ITS manages this with daily updates.

However, always be cautious of suspicious emails. Review the ISPO Phishing Notice to learn how to spot attacks.
